Who am I?

I'm a software person by trade with over 10 years of experience, particularly with search technology and web services. Before entering the search space a decade ago, I worked in research related to natural user interfaces, accessibility, geographic information systems, and mobile computing. For fun, I build my own crude electronic devices, develop firmware, do some 3D design and printing, and tinker with networking and Unix-like systems. I'm big into self-hosting.

Apart from tech, I also enjoy board- and video gaming, reading fiction, and coffee.

If you find me outside, I'll be swimming, boating, or cycling (not the colorfully dressed kind of cycling that is a menace to traffic safety).

Writing

My articles cover tech and other topics.

It's old-school, 'ganic human writing that is only assisted by a non-AI spell checker. No hate on people who write with LLMs - I just prefer unassisted writing to hone my thinking process and keep my mind sharp.
